At Pumapapel, we’ve always known that pop-ups have the power to spark wonder—but this time, we took that to a whole new scale.
Commissioned by The Mind Museum for their traveling exhibit “Playtales: Reimagining Tomorrows”, we were invited to create a life-size pop-up book with four spreads, each one showcasing a unique theme:
🦖 Dinosaurs
🚀 Mars colonies
🐋 Ocean ecosystems (featuring a lovable whale shark)
🌆 Sustainable cities of the future
Amy Lopez Nayve led the paper engineering design, while our team of artists at Pumapapel created the charming illustrations. The Mind Museum’s team of engineers then transformed it into a full-scale, walk-in installation—complete with sturdy, safe materials and standees for kids and families to interact with.
The biggest challenge? Ensuring the structure was durable, safe, and production-friendly at this scale. It needed to be fun, functional, and strong enough to handle high foot traffic from children and museum guests.
This project demonstrates that pop-ups can go far beyond books—they can be impactful, immersive installations that engage audiences in museums, public spaces, and exhibits.
📍Come see it at The Mind Museum in BGC until June 2025, before it begins touring!
