In 2018, I designed The Little Prince Takes Flight—one of my first complex pop-up cards—as a personal challenge to see how far I could push my paper engineering skills.
Inspired by The Little Prince and his journey through space, I built a card filled with intricate mechanisms—V-fold twisters, risers, rotators, moving arms, and tiny details that made the piece dynamic and immersive. My favorite part? The Lamplighter’s planet, which spun just like in the story.
At the time, I wasn’t thinking about whether this design was groundbreaking or whether it would lead to anything bigger. I was simply exploring, playing, and creating for the love of it.
Now, years later, I see how important that mindset is. Beginners don’t overthink—they experiment. And sometimes, the best work happens when you’re not worried about making a masterpiece.
This project still holds a special place in my heart because it reminds me of what truly fuels creativity: curiosity, exploration, and the willingness to try.
