How do you bring the underwater world to life in a way that readers can see, touch, and explore?

That was the challenge I took on in my latest collaboration with Nextquisite Publishing—Seas and Oceans, a soon-to-be-published pop-up book in the UK.

This book takes readers on a journey through marine ecosystems, from vibrant coral reefs to the mysterious depths of the ocean. My role as the paper engineer was to take Qian Ling’s stunning 2D illustrations and transform them into dynamic 3D pop-ups, making each scene feel immersive and interactive.

This is the third book in the series I’ve worked on, following The Four Seasons and Unicorns, and each one has pushed my creativity further. I love working this way—starting from a flat image and figuring out how to make it move, unfold, and truly come to life.

I can’t wait to see Seas and Oceans in print! While it may not be available in the Philippines, it should be accessible online—we’ll find out soon!
